What is the only word in the English language that completely changes it’s meaning just by capitalizing the first letter?
ANSWER PERSON RESPONDS: Oh-oh … is this a dirty joke? AP doesn’t do those. Or maybe it’s a question intended for Marilyn Savant in Parade Magazine rather than for Answer Person. Seems to me there must be a whole lot of proper names that refer to the place or person when capitalized and to something else when not. march (hup, two, three, four) vs March (in like a lamb, out like a lion). Those are both English words.
Actually, I think the stock answer to this one is “polish” (make it shine) vs “Polish” (language or adjectival form of the Eastern European country). Maybe the clue needs to be more complete, like mentioning how the pronunciation changes.
