Reading

I set a goal of reading a number of books in a particular time period. I miscalculated and will have no chance of finishing all the books. Those that I do not finish, I will have to leave where I am. What should I do? I feel like leaving these unread books is a huge waste, and shipping them is infeasible. Should I skim as many as I can get through?

ANSWER PERSON RESPONDS: You mean you’re reading multiple books simultaneously? That’s the first problem. Part of the Big Lie is that multitasking is a wonderful thing, but, in fact, maybe it’s just forced upon us to make us do more work.

Too many even to ship? If you’re in the USA, you might consider Book Rate (aka Special 4th Class rate) from the Post Office or else truck freight. Good books should be worth the shipping cost. Alternatively, can’t you get the books at a library wherever you’re going? Just make notes of where you left off. You’ll have to decide whether any of the books are only worthy of being skimmed. I would never, ever do this with fiction (just read Cliff’s notes or something). Maybe for a heavily illustrated non-fiction book you could just read the captions.
