{"id":5348,"date":"2012-05-10T07:00:29","date_gmt":"2012-05-10T12:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.library.duke.edu\/rubenstein\/?p=5348"},"modified":"2012-05-18T08:14:20","modified_gmt":"2012-05-18T13:14:20","slug":"a-home-for-our-dragons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.library.duke.edu\/rubenstein\/2012\/05\/10\/a-home-for-our-dragons\/","title":{"rendered":"A Home for our Dragons (and Ghosts, and Bunnies&#8230;)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of my ongoing processing projects for the past year was to arrange and describe the <a title=\"Murray RPG finding aid\" href=\"http:\/\/library.duke.edu\/rubenstein\/findingaids\/murrayrpg\/\" target=\"_blank\">Edwin and Terry Murray Collection of Role-Playing Games<\/a>, a vast collection with thousands of books, boxed games, miniature pieces, card sets, magazines &#8212; all relating to the world of RPGs. Most of these items received individual attention. For example, each volume in the collection has been described at an item level, including its title, publisher, and year, to better help our patrons browse across the various game worlds and decades of RPG publishing. Users can download a spreadsheet from the finding aid and search and sort the materials to their heart&#8217;s content. Even if I didn&#8217;t have any interest in playing the game, the covers of the many volumes or boxes easily grabbed my attention. Some of the highlights? Ghostbusters, of course.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I also enjoyed learning more about the many, many variants and knock-offs of Dungeons and Dragons &#8212; why reinvent the wheel when you can just change the words around a bit? But the funniest, in my opinion, were the games that clearly tried to reach new audiences &#8212; like these two games aimed at people who liked bunnies.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5358\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5358\" style=\"width: 635px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.library.duke.edu\/rubenstein\/files\/2012\/05\/IMG_0472.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5358\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.library.duke.edu\/rubenstein\/files\/2012\/05\/IMG_0472-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Wabbit Wampage RPG\" width=\"635\" height=\"476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.library.duke.edu\/rubenstein\/files\/2012\/05\/IMG_0472-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.library.duke.edu\/rubenstein\/files\/2012\/05\/IMG_0472-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5358\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wabbit Wampage and Bunnies and Burrows: 2 different RPGs featuring scary smart rabbits.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>You may remember our blog posts about the <a title=\"Game Night\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.library.duke.edu\/rubenstein\/2011\/12\/06\/game-night-at-the-rubenstein-library\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rubenstein<\/a> <a title=\"Game Night Photos\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.library.duke.edu\/rubenstein\/2011\/12\/15\/snapshots-from-game-night\/\" target=\"_blank\">Game Night<\/a>, celebrating the opening of the collection last winter. Since then, we received another very large addition, and we needed to work closely with our Conservation Department to figure out how to house the hundreds of hand-painted figurines and miniatures that arrived with the collection.
